It’s December and the Christmas season is upon us! It is time to take down all the orange and brown decorations from the fall season and put up the sparkly décor. Why does it seem to come quicker every year? I barely had time to digest my turkey and let the tryptophan kick in, now I am dragging out the Christmas stuff wondering if taking a whole day to reset the house is really worth it…
But in the midst of decorating, the sound of Dean Martin’s voice beckoning me to “Have Yourself a Merry little Christmas,” the smell of apple cider steaming out of my favorite mug, and the colors and sparkles on all the tree ornaments all pull me back to the true meaning. Yes, it is worth it! We are being purposeful about announcing the birth of Jesus once again. We are intentional about spreading the amazing news of a Savior who came to show us the way. We are preparing for a celebration of the most prominent birth of all time! The message we are declaring to the world is “Immanuel, God with us.”
The Bible begins with the book of Genesis when God walked and talked with Adam and Eve; “God with us”. Then in the Gospels, it was the birth of Christ and “Immanuel, God with us”. Jesus walked and talked with us and showed us the way to the Father. The remainder of the bible points to the glorious return of Jesus to the earth to set up His Kingdom, again, “God with us.” Yes, my friends, it really is all about relationship and being connected to our Creator. God desires to be with us, and to know us!
So, in the midst of the hustle and bustle the next 3 weeks, take note of the fragrances, the colors, and sounds of the season that surround you, and remember God is with us!
